I used to see more the 2500 outpatient consultations perform 250 major and 1000 minor pediatric and neonatal surgeries in a year. I acquired my fellowship in Robotic surgery and officiated as chairman of scientific committed of the hospital during my tenure.
Served as Consultant & Chief Pediatric Surgeon (HOD,Associate Professor) at KFHU(Oct 2007 till Feb 2015). KFHU is a tertiary care and teaching hospital under University of Dammam ( previously known as King Faisal University), KSA, with a dedicated faculty of Pediatric Surgery under Department of Surgery. I was responsible for 15 days a month on call for the clinical duties and 20 days a month for academic assignments. Clinical responsibilities included attending Outpatient clinic ( once in 6 days), day care surgery ( once in 6 days), Emergency Room calls daily for 15days a month, elective OR once in 6 days.
My academic activities included conducting daily morning reports by surgical residents, weekly lectures for the undergraduates and post graduate trainees; graduate and masters nursing pediatric surgery courses, clinico pathology and radiological meets bi weekly. I had prepared Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) modules for these students.
Performed as Coordinator of Masters Nursing Pediatric Surgery Course, supervisor of Masters theses and Internal Examiner for MBBS and Saudi Board for General Surgery.
I had started the pediatric laparoscopic service in the division since Oct 2007. I had been doing basic laparoscopic procedures like appendectomy, orchiopexy, cholecystectomies, diagnostic lap, hernia etc; and advanced procedures like fundoplication, splenectomies, Meckel’s diverticulectomy, complete lap resection and anastomosis of bowel ,etc..
For last 2 years I had been performing neonatal MIS such as Pyloromyotomies, Hernial ring closures, Ovarian cyst excision, malrotaion etc.
I had ventured into Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) in pediatric population such as SILS appendectomy, cholecystectomy and ovarian cyst excision.
I had also started to expand our minimally invasive services to other areas such as pediatric thoracic ( diagnostic thoracoscopy, lung biopsies, decortications, fibrinolysis etc) and pediatric urology ( retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomies, pyeloplasty etc) too.
I joined CMC, Ludhiana, Punjab, India as Assistant Professor & Consultant in Pediatric Surgery in July 2003 and later promoted to Associate Professor in Pediatric Surgery in October 2006. My job responsibilities included :
Running general Out Patient Clinic for Pediatric Surgery, Neonatal Surgery, special clinics for Pediatric Urology, Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Clinic , Ambiguous Genitalia Clinic and Fetal Anomaly Clinic ( Special Clinics were started by me as biweekly clinics in 2004 Jan.)
I was also responsible for starting Pediatric Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic procedures in this Institution.
Running elective Operation Theater twice a week, Emergency surgeries all the days of a week.
Pediatric Surgery setup included 25 bedded general inpatient ward, 10 bedded post operative ward, 10 bedded pediatric surgical ICU.
I used to conduct teaching programme for Undergraduate Students, Postgraduate (General Surgery, Pediatric Medicine, Neonatologists) students and Nursing Graduation Tranees.
I was appointed by Baba Farid University, Punjab as the supervisor for thesis projects for postgraduate students in the above mentioned categories.

I had organized CMEs on Ambiguous Genitalia and North West Chapter of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons CME during my tenure.
I received my Pediatric Surgery Superspeciality training from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi between July 2000 to July 2003.
The three years structured training involved intensive case study and operations involving Neonatal Surgery, Pediatric Gastroenterology, and Thoracic surgery, Pediatric Urology, Pediatric Neurosurgery and Pediatric Oncosurgery.
Pediatric Surgery Department of AIIMS had an inpatient ward with 50 beds, 10 bedded post operative and high dependency unit, 10 bedded Surgical ICU and 10 bedded oncology unit. My duties involved weekly first oncall for ward and surgical ICU, attending referrals from other Neonatal and Pediatric Services. I was responsible for running the specialized services e.g Urodynamic Lab, Esophageal Manometry & pH monitoring,and anorectal manometry. I was also responsible for conducting general Out Patients Clinics and special Clinics for Pediatric Urology, Hydrocephalus Clinic & Ambiguous Genitalia Clinics.
During my training I used to present seminars and journal club in the Morning Academic Sessions of the Department, Grand Round of the Hospital, conduct weekly Pediatric Radiological Meeting, biweekly Pediatric Pathological Meeting and Pediatric Cancer Board in collaboration with Medical Oncologists, Radiotherapist and Pathologists. I was also involved in the presentations in the weekly Nuclear Medicine meetings for Pediatric Cases. I undertook clinical as well as experimental studies titled ‘Assessment of GER and pulmonary functions in the survivors of congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia – A prospective study’, ‘Analysis of CSF metabolites in patients of Spina Bifida by proton (H1) NMR spectroscopy’ and ‘Role of Plasma renin activity in the management of primary vesicoureteric reflux’ and submitted those as theses to the University . These studies have been published in reputed indexed journals of high impact factor e.g SPINE, KIDNEY INTERNATIONAL, PEDIATRIC SURGERY INTERNATIONAL. I am also recipient of Mohan Lal Wig Gold Medal for best Post Graduate Clinical Research of the year 2003 and Young Scientists Award of Indian Science Congress Association, 2004.
I have attended several national and international conferences in Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Urology, Intersex Disorders etc. I had the opportunity of interacting and assisting with the eminent Pediatric Surgeons of the world namely Lewis Spitz in Tracheo Esophageal Surgery, H S Asopa in Hypospadias, Warren Snodgrass in TIP, Paddy Dewan in Ureterocystoplasty, McKinnon in ureteric reimplantation, U Patel in trans pubic urethroplasty, DK Gupta in neonatal gastric pullthrough, Minu Bajpai in gastrocystoplasty and craniosynostosis, V Bhatnager in Hepatic Resection, Prem Puri in STING (Deflux), PG Duffy in Ileocystoplasty(Monte’s) and Dr Kelly in Extrophy Bladder surgery.
